Texas, and in particular the Houston area, is facing some challenging times, with catastrophic flooding in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, with more yet to come.

But what has helped has been the good, quick response from the federal government, FEMA and President Donald Trump.

Hurrican Harvey made landfall on Friday and Trump had already declared it a disaster before it hit, ensuring that resources would be available.

From Fox News Insider:

President Trump’s response to the crisis has been “extremely professional, very helpful,” the governor assured, adding that the two spoke on the phone several times.

“He called and said, ‘Governor, whatever you need, you’ve got.'”

Abbott praised the speed and the professionalism of the response.

“This is the quickest turnaround I’ve ever seen from the time a governor made a disaster declaration to getting that granted,” Abbott stated.

The president’s speedy response “triggered all the resources of FEMA to help Texas,” which has made a huge difference, the governor explained.

“I give FEMA a grade of A+ all the way from the president down,” Abbott said. “We’ve never been more prepared for a storm than we had been this time.”

Former GOP Rep. Nan Hayworth also praised the quick response.

Hayworth said Trump showed “great leadership and executive qualities” by declaring the disaster in advance, surrounding himself with tremendous emergency management people, and making sure that assets were ready to be deployed to help the people of the Gulf region.

“It’s all about logistics and about making sure that there are clear lines of direction and execution,” Hayworth said. “And they have pre-placed resources all around the southeast, where they’ll be able to mobilize them.”

She said there had been excellent coordination between all the various federal agencies. Health and Human Services, the Coast Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers.

And that would ensure not only that there is quicker help now, but also help in the subsequent recovery.

“FEMA will be there, the flood insurance program will be there, Small Business Administration will be there to aid these residents in rebuilding their homes and recovering their what they can of their resources, and rebuilding these communities,” Hayworth said.

Good on Trump and the feds for the quick response!

It’s still very tough out there with more rain expected and a round 2 to come, with Governor Abbott saying there could be trouble for at least a week all across East Texas.
