Earlier today, we told you that Special Counsel Mueller impaneled a grand jury in the Russia probe. Typically, one of the reasons for a grand jury is to issue subpoenas.
That’s exactly what happened moments after the news of the grand jury broke.
Subpoenas have been issued and it’s got everything to do with that “mysterious” meeting that took place in Trump Tower last year.
Here’s what just went down.
From Washington Examiner:
A grand jury has issued subpoenas related to a June 2016 meeting that took place at Trump Tower between members of President Trump’s family and campaign representatives, and a Russian lawyer, according to a report.Donald Trump Jr., former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya on June 9, 2016, after Trump Jr. was promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton.
We’ve been talking about this meeting for weeks and weeks and it is pretty clear that nothing illegal went down.
Was Don Jr. a little sloppy for attending the meeting in the first place? Maybe. But, that’s not even remotely criminal and it’s clear that no information was exchanged and nothing illegal took place.
The evidence as it stands rights now points to this being a witch hunt.
Until we see something that says otherwise there is really no need to get worked up over all of this.
Also, important to understand that this doesn’t mean the president is under investigation.
Here’s Trump’s lawyer with more on that.
“We have no reason to believe that the President’s under investigation here.”
Moments ago, President Donald J. Trump legal team member Jay Sekulow answered Neil Cavuto’s questions in the wake of reports that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury in the Russia probe.
